Connectivity and Communications Solutions

Keeping crews, equipment and data connected across remote worksites is a high-stakes necessity. Gaps in communication can quickly disrupt workflows — dispatch fails to reach an operator, an autonomous machine loses connectivity or a safety sensor goes offline without anyone knowing.

Intermountain Technologies provides specialized connectivity systems for industrial environments where consumer-grade networks and fixed infrastructure fall short, helping you achieve stronger visibility and reliable communication across your operation.

Bridge the Communication Gap, From the Mine Face to the Home Office

Enterprise Wi-Fi and standard wireless infrastructure are engineered for fixed environments: consistent geometry, predictable traffic and static obstructions. A working mine is none of those things. You need reliable data flow to maintain safe, efficient operations. A functional site requires seamless connectivity across several critical touchpoints:

  • Personnel: Field crews and on-site staff.
  • Mobile equipment: Heavy machinery and autonomous vehicles.
  • Fixed assets: Stationary infrastructure and plants.
  • Monitoring tools: Remote diagnostics and safety sensors.
  • Command centers: Centralized management hubs.

When communication breaks down, it slows dispatch, delays maintenance and limits visibility. Crews working across open-pit sites, underground areas or isolated locations need dependable wireless communications for mining to coordinate safely.

Custom-Engineered Solutions for Your Toughest Environments

Intermountain Technologies designs systems specifically tailored to your site’s unique terrain, coverage needs, power limitations and safety priorities.

We help you overcome communication challenges by:

  • Assessing data requirements, coverage areas, fixed infrastructure, existing wireless equipment and mine expansion plans.
  • Designing solutions using a combination of technologies that support your specific environment.
  • Integrating point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, mesh and wired infrastructure.
  • Using public networks where appropriate to reduce infrastructure overhead.

With our approach, we build strong solutions that prepare you for future expansion.

Underground Communications

Underground connectivity faces unique challenges that surface mines don’t share. Drifts and stopes create no-line-of-sight geometry, blasts and equipment contact can damage nodes, and the reflective environment creates multipath conditions that significantly degrade standard linearly polarized antennas.

We address the underground RF environment with Poynting HELI-22 circularly polarized helical antennas paired with Rajant BreadCrumb nodes. Circular polarization is substantially more resilient to multipath reflections in tunnel and drift geometries because it doesn’t rely on a single polarization plane. The signal arrives usable even when reflected paths arrive shifted. The result is reliable coverage through active headings without the signal degradation you’d see with standard antenna configurations.

Underground applications we support:

  • Data communication and telemetry through active workings
  • Personnel location and tracking for MSHA compliance under 30 CFR Part 57
  • Equipment diagnostics and remote monitoring data transmission
  • Environmental and atmospheric sensor data transmission
  • Emergency communication system requirements

As headings advance, the network extends with them. Because it’s self-healing, a node taken out by a blast or equipment contact doesn’t bring down the surrounding coverage.

Rajant Kinetic Mesh Wireless Networks

Rajant Kinetic Mesh provides an adaptive network architecture that keeps critical data moving across dynamic industrial sites. Kinetic Mesh is self-healing, meaning if a node goes offline, the network automatically reroutes around it rather than going down.

As vehicles, crews and equipment move across your site, the network adapts with them to reduce dependence on fixed towers, fiber lines and single access points. When connected to autonomous equipment and remote diagnostics and monitoring tools, a resilient industrial wireless mesh network gives you stronger visibility and better control over daily operations.

Cambium Networks Wireless Connectivity

Cambium point-to-point links are ideal for fixed-to-fixed connections where you need reliable throughput between two fixed locations. Cambium’s point-to-multipoint support enables fixed-to-semi-fixed applications, such as connecting solar trailer nodes that move with work zones.

BreadCrumb® Wireless Nodes (Hawk and Peregrine)

BreadCrumb wireless nodes provide the rugged field hardware you need to build, extend and strengthen your mesh network. Your team can install them on infrastructure, vehicles, trailers and equipment to support reliable sitewide communication.

The Peregrine provides enterprise worksites with high data throughput on fixed infrastructure. The Hawk is a mobile radio specifically designed for equipment and vehicles that need connectivity while moving across the site.

These help your mining communication systems maintain a dependable network backbone across demanding industrial conditions.

Solar Trailers and Mobile Power Solutions

Mobile power delivers the support infrastructure that keeps remote network equipment online where grid power cannot reach. That’s where our solar trailers come in. They reliably support network nodes, cameras and other vital equipment in off-grid areas.

Because these trailers are customizable, you can adjust them to meet the exact power consumption requirements of your specific equipment.

AIM Connectivity Innovations

A site that runs with autonomous equipment and machinery, network latency quickly becomes an operational necessity. Our partnership with AIM empowers your communication solutions by keeping your operations and teams safe and operational.

Rajant Network Management Tools

Serving as a control layer, management tools make it easy to track network status, connected devices and overall performance data through centralized diagnostic platforms.

Armed with this visibility, your team can pinpoint weak points much faster, reducing guesswork and freeing them to focus exclusively on maintaining steady, reliable operations.
